An influential person in the lives of the disabled was Marca Bristo , who passed away on September 8th, 2019. While surfing the internet I stumbled across an article about Ms. Bristo which made me want to know more about her life. Thank God for google! I learned about her work which was invaluable for each and every disabled American. When I finished my research I decided to write a letter thanking her for her hard work on the Americans With Disabilities Act.
I am a disabled American who’s mobility is extremely limited. I must admit that I never put much thought into the logistics of getting from point A to point B until becoming disabled when suddenly ingress and egress became important words in my life. When I read about your passing it made me want to know more about your life. Thank God for Google! After my reading I was filled with gratitude. The American with Disabilities Act has allowed the disabled and caregivers a way to move through life. When I think of my travels and my daily life, I can’t imagine what life would be like without a disabled parking placard, ramps, or handicapped bathroom stalls. Unfortunately, there is still work to be done on establishing equality for the disabled, but you helped start something special for all of us. Thank you for all of your hard work which gave freedom and enjoyment to the lives of all those unfortunate enough to be labeled disabled. It would be an honor to give you a hug. Rest in peace!
Forever in your debt,
